It Met Your Spec…
2023-ongoing. c-print. 11 x 14”
It Met Your Spec… is a work in progress that utilizes camera-less photography and darkroom photomontage techniques to construct imagery that reflects on the way scientific and consumer technologies are marketed for gender specific audiences. Domestic contraptions, body parts, survivalist tools, flora, and machines used for space exploration are combined to create suggestive biomorphic entities. Titles hold double meaning, inspired by advertisements found in science journals and home magazines. The project explores anxieties related to motherhood and the notion of women’s work. Images are based on personal experience of body transformation, medical fear, and domestic responsibility, while connecting to collective issues of labor and body agency for female identifying persons. The photographs are color separation prints created with a homemade registration system, a technical challenge and contemporary process that engages with the history of color photography.
